Treatment of wooden packaging materials

Pre-shipment treatment of wooden packaging materials

Lanodir provides pre-shipment treatment of wooden packaging materials (e.g. crates, dunnage, pallets, and lashings) according to International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures-15 (ISPM-15).

Wood materials of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship products between countries need to be treated to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants and ecosystems.

ISPM-15 requires that all wood materials be debarked and then heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide and stamped or branded with a mark of compliance. This mark of compliance is colloquially known as the “wheat stamp” (see picture).

Lanodir works exclusively with HT (high temperatures) to ensure 100% efficiency and protection of the environment. The World Meteorological Organization has singled out methyl bromide as the gas most responsible for ozone layer depletion, which is why Lanodir only uses HT, and never uses methyl bromide.
